Welcome to Da Bao Diaries, a column dedicated to what Time Out Singapore's editors are eating and drinking at home. Da bao is a Singaporean colloquialism derived from Mandarin that refers to having a meal to go instead of dining in at an establishment.

Looking for a meal you can enjoy in front of the computer screen? These options – from mini sliders to loaded sandwiches – can be easily consumed with one hand, leaving the other clean and free to reply to work emails or scroll through Facebook. You don’t even need any cutlery, so that means minimal washing up.

Swensen’s

Delivery options are here to stay, and Swensen’s has recently launched a takeaway-exclusive box that is easily customisable. Choose to fill your Slidin’ In box ($23.90) with six petite creations – perfect for days when you’re craving a little bit of everything. Options include the classic hamburger, honey chicken, crispy chicken, fish fillet, mushroom, and Impossible patty – all served between soft brioche buns. Wolf down all six at one go if you’re feeling hungry, or share them with someone else with the buddy meal option ($28.80) that comes along with coleslaw and two drinks.

HOW TO ORDER Available for takeaway from its 22 outlets islandwide, or head over to swensens.com.sg/delivery for delivery options via local platforms Deliveroo, Foodpanda, and Grabfood.

So France

Bring home a piece of France with the restaurant’s selection of bistro items. Try the Le Cochon ($22), a hefty sammie where sourdough ciabatta comes generously stuffed with braised pork cheeks, pork terrine, spicy vegetable relish, pickled cucumber, arugula leaves, and finished with smoked ketchup. It’s a dish that tastes great warm, and just as good at room temperature. Throw in a side of fries ($8) for good measure, or end your meal on a sweet note with the homemade Paris Brest ($12), a ring of choux pastry filled with hazelnut and almond praline. Of course, the online store also stocks fresh bakes from its boulangerie and retails the famed Bordier butter for those looking for a luxurious spread.

HOW TO ORDER Head over to so-france.sg/bistro-french-food-takeaway-and-delivery/ to place your orders. There’s no minimum order, and a $10 delivery fee applies. Orders above $120 qualify for free shipping.
