Going to Coldplay? Here are alternative transport options to avoid the post-concert crowd

If there's one thing that's a pain about going to concerts, it's making your way back home after the fact. In Singapore, you can expect huge crowds at the MRT station closest to the concert venue. Otherwise, you might be looking at long waiting times and exorbitant prices for taxis and ride hailing transport back home.

With Coldplay's Music of the Spheres world tour happening over the next few days and more major concerts coming up this year, existing ride hailing providers and new entrants have entered the scene with alternative transport options. While these won't take you from concert venue to your doorstep, they are affordable (even free) alternatives that will bring you to major MRT stations from which you can take a convenient train home or hail a cheaper cab from.

Free Grab shuttles

Grab announced in a Facebook post that it will be providing free Grab shuttle bus services from the National Stadiums to four MRT stations between January 23 to 31. The shuttles will ply two routes and run every 15 to 30 minutes between 9.30pm to midnight. The routes are:

  1. Stadium to Redhill MRT to Jurong East MRT
  2. Stadium to Boon Keng MRT to Toa Payoh MRT

To get to the shuttle buses, head to Gate 14 at the National Stadium to get to pick-up point A. Shuttle buses will pick concertgoers up on a first-come-first-served basis.

Convenient shuttles at $16

If you're keen to secure a seat on a shuttle service, then Wagon might be your answer. For $16 ($10 for early birds), you can get yourself a place on a 45-seater bus that will travel to one of five MRT stations: City Hall, Serangoon, Jurong East, Eunos and Woodlands.

It's easy to book too. Just head to Klook, choose the MRT station that you want to travel to, before picking your concert date. After you make payment, you'll receive a Klobbi QR code that you show to the operations team that will be on-ground on concert days.

Wagon was founded this year by an entrepreneurial group of guys in their 20s – Hafiz, Faris, Tristan, Danial, and Chris. They work on an AI system called Clics, which they've embedded into Cococart to help with the customer service and sales flow. The team at Wagon have hopes to extend this service to future concerts – so, if you happen to be going for show in the future (Taylor Swift, anyone?) do indicate your interest on the Wagon Cococart page.
