Here’s another to add to the list of new cafés in Katong, all popping up along the Joo Chiat stretch: Olsen Bakehouse, a favourite for locally-inspired bakes. They might’ve shifted from their former Crawford Lane venue into an Instagram-worthy conservation shophouse, but they’ve retained the same tranquil atmosphere and a delectable menu of fresh bakes. It’s also a bakery that prides itself on using all natural, locally-sourced fresh ingredients.

It’s the ondeh ondeh cakes that this bakery is most known for – a fluffy pandan sponge layered with gula melaka and sprinkled with coconut shreds. But give other flavours a try too, such as the orh nee (sweet yam paste) pandan chiffon or the sesame yuzu for its zesty filling. The classic 5.5” cake, perfect for a hungry group of six, starts from $56. Besides fresh bakes, they do also have a range of cold brews (from $6), along with cold chocolate ($7) and kombucha (from $6).
