If Spain winning the recent FIFA World Cup hasn’t already piqued your interest, perhaps this new Singapore Airlines flight route might. Asia’s best airline has teased a new route to Madrid via Barcelona – and it’s going all out with five trips there and back per week.

Some of us might already be aware of an existing Singapore-to-Madrid route with a flight connection in Munich, Germany, instead – so what’s the big deal about this one?

For one, layovers on the new route passing Barcelona are shorter at just one hour, compared to longer stops at up to 1 hour 50 minutes in Munich. This also results in an overall shorter journey of 16 hours 20 minutes, compared to almost 18 hours, which translates to more than an hour and a half saved. Travel bugs know this all too well: when you’re on holiday, every minute counts – and the quicker we get to our destinations, the better.

But perhaps the biggest draw, for SQ purists at least, would be the fact that the new Singapore-Barcelona-Madrid route is solely operated by Singapore Airlines. On the other hand, the older route stopping in Germany features only codeshare flights in partnership with Lufthansa. So, depending on the timing you pick, you might be hopping on board a Lufthansa-operated aircraft instead.

If you’re already planning your itinerary, our Time Out Madrid editors have you covered. Some cool sights to check out in Madrid would include the Royal Palace of Madrid, the romantic El Capricho Park, and Madrid’s best food under one roof at the Galería Canalejas food hall. If you’re looking for a break from the city, there are also countryside wine tours that you can do as day trips.

The first flight on SIA’s new route to Spain kicks off on October 26, 2026, and ticket bookings are already open. Based on our snooping, ticket prices for this Singapore-Spain route start from around $1,287 for Economy class at the time of writing. Find out more and book your tickets via the Singapore Airlines website.
