In recent years, we've happily watched a new wave of quiet, charming bookstores pop up across Singapore. In an age of one-click checkouts, there's still nothing quite like pulling a book off a shelf and flipping through its pages before deciding to bring it home. We've already welcomed beloved spots like Eliko and TBC, and now there's another name to add to your bookstore list: Bommoi.

Having relocated from its previous home on Armenian Street, Bommoi is a Korean bookstore that has recently settled into a new space on Neil Road. Its cosy interior feels worlds away from Singapore's lively chaos. Step inside and you might be greeted by the store's resident cat, Sara.

The bookstore is divided into two sections. Right upon entering, you'll find a collection of picture books by South Korean artists that cater to readers of all ages, from young children to adults.

On the other end towards the windows, the shelves are stocked with Korean novels, art books, and English translations of Korean poetry and fiction. There are also Korean textbooks for those keen to learn the language.

What’s special about the selection at Bommoi is that they’re all carefully curated and handpicked by its owner. Many of the titles are by independent Korean writers whose works are difficult to find elsewhere in Singapore, so it’s safe to say every browse feels like a literary treasure hunt.

Beyond the books, you'll also discover zines by independent creators, a cosy nook showcasing South Korean-made ceramics, and a dedicated shelf of rentable locker boxes, where artists and makers can display and sell their own creations.

And the appeal of Bommoi doesn't end with its books – its second level is a quiet reading space where you can work, study, unwind, or simply get lost in a good book. Access costs just $4 with no time limit, while anyone who spends $20 or more at the bookstore can use the space for free. To make things even cosier, there are complimentary drinks on hand too, this includes free-flow water, Milo and tea.
