Theme parks in Singapore are few and far between, but those in search for more thrilling entertainment will soon be sated. In 2024, look forward to the return of indoor children's theme park KidZania, the entry of an Escape adventure park from Malaysia, and a new VR theatre Haven XR Cinemas. Now, why isn't it next year yet?

KidZania will be familiar to many of you. The edutainment attraction in Sentosa closed down in 2020 after Covid-19 circuit breaker measures choked off its revenue stream. This time, Sentosa Development Corporation has handed over KidZania's refurbishment to Sim Leisure Group, which will be bringing it back as KidZania 5.0. The attraction will introduce children to exciting 'jobs of the future' through role playing activities to educate them on the environmental and social concerns of today.

Meanwhile, thrill-seekers will soon get an alternative to Universal Studios Singapore at a new Escape theme park. Don't miss this for the now-defunct Escape Theme Park in Singapore, though. This  brand originates in Malaysia, running theme parks and experiences in Penang and Ipoh, with more planned in Kuala Lumpur and Johor. Escape Penang is particularly famous, as it hold the Guinness World Record for the world's longest waterslide, stretching to a whopping 1.1 kilometres as it winds through the leafy canopy of a rainforest. The Escape parks go by a new genre known as 'retro-eco adventure', so you can expect lots of nature and adventure-based rides that are low-tech and self-powered.

And if stepping into a movie sounds like your idea of a good time, then you should be psyched about Haven XR Cinemas. This immersive, virtual reality attraction will allow you to become part of your favourite flick – imagine entering the desert-like world of Dune or walking alongside the fantastical creatures in Avatar's Pandora.
