Don Don Donki is a slice of Japanese heaven right here in Singapore, and it's new outlet at Jewel Changi Airport has loads more to offer. Cutesy aviation-inspired decor aside, the store is also home to the chain's first Halal food corner in Singapore. Snap up a massive variety of Japan-imported items and eat your fill at the new food hall, which is complete with a made-to-order sushi bar, freshly-fried takoyaki, and soon, even a mochi-making machine. Swing by the sake bar too – it has more than 40 types of sake to choose from.

Take the kids to dine alongside dinosaurs at Gardens by the Bay's latest food hall, Jurassic Nest. This dinosaur-themed food hall brings together hawker brands from across the island, and most of them are recognised by the Michelin Guide. Among them are Bismillah Briyani and Tsuta. Other eateries include Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang and Hawker Chan. Tuck into a hearty plate of briyani or a piping bowl of ramen while surrounded by prehistoric creatures including Tyrannosaurus Rex and Brachiosaurus and lush vegetation. Find Jurassic Nest at Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay.

Got more time on your hands during the December holidays? Take the whole family to Central Beach Bazaar, the latest attraction on the Island of Fun. Here's where you'll find an 80-metre-tall Sentosa SkyJet, a refresh of the iconic Sentosa Musical Fountain from the 1980s, and an international food street. In the future, Central Beach Bazaar will get even livelier, thanks to planned simulation rides and carnival games in upcycled shopping containers. It's just steps away from Sentosa's Beach Station too.

You know The Projector, Singapore's coolest cinema. This year, it opened a second pop-up concept (following Projector X: Riverside) at the former The Cathay premises, transforming the space into a cinema-slash-party space where all the edgiest kids hang out. Besides its usual roster of blockbuster hits and indie sleepers, it also runs regular club nights with music spanning emo, pop, and throwback tunes.

The world famous Café Kitsune landed in Singapore this year with a beautiful joint at Capitol Building. The French-Japanese chain brings with it an extensive menu of robust cuppas and signature pastries. After two years of restoration works, the Bukit Timah Railway Station finally reopened to the public this year. Located around the midway point of the Rail Corridor, this new attraction has a heritage gallery where you can learn all about the history of the former railway station. There, you can also pick up a cup of coffee at the café housed in the former staff quarters. Keep your eyes peeled for original features that have been carefully preserved, including track switching levers, the ticketing booth, station signs and token poles. Ramps and wagons have also been added to the 4.3-hectare space for visitors to interact and take photos with.

Experience new sights at Changi Bay Point – a 140-metre-long boardwalk made out of slip-resistant glass fibre and reinforced concrete that also provides a beautiful view of the waterfront. It is an attraction along Changi Bay Park Connector – which opened this year – connecting Changi Beach Park to the East Coastal Park Connector Network, forming part of the eastern corridor of the Round-Island-Route (RIR). Take a walk on the boardwalk which is connected to a breakwater so you can be right at the water's edge. Need a breather? Sit yourselves down at the pavilion near the boardwalk for a rest and enjoy the waterfront views while you're at it.

We’re all massive fans of affordable furniture. Enter Nitori, a Japanese furniture brand that made it to the fourth floor of The Heeren along Orchard Road this year. It spans more than 31,000 square feet, with an in-store range that any new homeowner will be more than pleased to browse through when they’ve got a free afternoon to spare. For one, their N-Cool Collection is a bedding range that makes the most of special tech – it promises to be a whole ton of things including antibacterial, water-absorbent, and quick-drying. You can also pick up large furniture pieces such as bed frames and dining tables, alongside decor and interior accessories.
