What's trending in Singapore this month

The top things in Singapore people are talking about in March 2018 – served up in bite-sized format.

1. Melty goodness

McDonald's chocolate pie that launched in March is easily the best $1.40 we've ever spent at the fast food chain. It's no wonder why it sold out like islandwide in two weeks – just like the viral nasi lemak burger before it.

2. Nasi le what?

Looking to keep the nasi lemak trend alive, Old Chang Kee hops on the hype train and comes with – you guessed it – a nasi lemak puff. It's basically the local favourite in curry puff form constructed with all the trimmings: egg, peanuts, ikan bilis, sambal and chicken. Not too bad for $2.

3. On the edge

It’s not just the signals getting fixed, your peak hour MRT commute might just get a tad better as we’re getting new trains fitted with rows of ‘tip-up’ seats. The catch? Only qualified train operators get to decide when to fold and unfold the seats – so you’re still at the mercy of SMRT.

4. Shell not pass

Rehoming the 500 turtles, tortoises and terrapins living at the Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum in Chinese Garden for the past 17 years is proving to be an uphill battle. Owner Connie Tan even penned a heartfelt Facebook plea to the Prime Minister, who promised to look into the case. Fingers crossed.

5. Dollar dollar bills

Forget about striking Toto, a lucky group of curious cats got $50 in exchange for $3 – all thanks to telco Circles.Life’s vending machine stunt at Raffles Place. Hundreds turned up and caused quite a ruckus. Too bad it got shut down before we got wind of it. Typical.

6. Unbearable act

When the news of a We Bare Bear invasion was happening at Sentosa, fans of the animated show quickly made their way over to Palawan Beach to selfie with their favourites. But unfortunately, the crowd brought along some bad apples who sat and practically manhandled the poor bear inflatables. We just can't have nice things, sometimes.
