Time Out says

Standout pizza joints are a dime a dozen these days. By no means are we new to Singapore’s pizza scene – we know full well who doles out the best pizza slice in town. Having ticked sourdough crusts, deep-dish pies, and heck, even a pizza omakase off our list, our expectations for something new in the pizza realm aren’t all that high. But there’s this pizzeria that’s recently opened their doors along Craig Road and damn straight, they’re bringing something new to the table.

And that would be Milano Pizza & Wine and their menu’s obvious pièce de résistance: the Sicilian grandma pizza. It’s somewhat of a misnomer, since its origins aren’t accurately from the picturesque town of Sicily. Instead, they were created by first-generation Italian immigrants who made the move to New York City decades earlier. Sicilian grandmas? Most of them would’ve been. These rustic pies take inspiration from a sfincione, a spongy crusted Sicilian pizza that’s traditionally eaten for Christmas Eve.

History lesson aside, Milano Pizza & Wine’s rendition is every bit as inviting with its two-inch-thick pie. It’s no easy task making these pizzas – the chefs will be at it for a full day. When our Mortadella & Burrata Sicilian Grandma Pizza ($27) came out, it’s clear that the end result was worth it. Airy and light, but still somewhat dense thanks to the crispy edges.

As far as we know, Milano Pizza & Wine is the only restaurant in Singapore where you can order up Sicilian grandma pizza. They do also offer regular Neapolitan pizzas, just that they pride themselves on baking their naturally fermented sourdough base higher and longer. Since it’s all done in a stone-fired oven, you can expect charred crust and a chewy texture. Like any solid pizzeria, they do have a classic Margherita ($26), but you could also try the more unique pizzas: crab & lobster bisque ($42) or the beef cheek bolognese ($34).

The restaurant’s by the same folks behind Pasta Bar, so it’s intuitive that they’ve got pasta down pat. We tried the Pappardelle Sunday Gravy ($28), reminiscent of a hearty Sunday roast – and yes, this pizzeria is as well-versed in pasta as they are with wood-fired pizza.

Alcohol-wise, they’ve got a vast selection of Italian wines alongside a mix of Old World and New World wines to complete your comfort meal.
