Fresh pasta doesn't usually come cheap in Singapore. Turning a humble mix of eggs and flour into slurp-worthy strands is not just about using high-quality ingredients, it also requires a whole lot of skill – and quite frankly, some muscle. Often handmade in small batches without much shelf life, fresh pasta is an art but it doesn't always need to be expensive.

In this savvy list, we reveal affordable yet tasty pasta joints that guarantee to sort out your carb cravings – all for under $10.

3 places to go for cheap fresh pasta

  • Tiong Bahru

Handmade aglio olio pasta for just $3.90? This is quite possibly the cheapest freshly made pasta you'll find in Singapore. Launched first at JCube shopping mall as a takeaway concept, it now has three outlets islandwide (other outlets are located at Tiong Bahru Plaza and Wisteria Mall). Choose from a range of six core flavours – all under $10 – such as rich beef bolognese, creamy carbonara and lemon butter al limone. Each base comes with the option to top up with your choice of protein from grilled chicken and smoked salmon to sous vide egg.

  • Raffles Place

You won't find instant spaghetti around these parts. Keeping things au natural, the joint doesn't add food colouring or preservatives to its noods. The best value-for-money dishes start off with the classic spaghetti meatballs and the truffle-laced mushroom squid ink pasta, both priced at just $8.90. For an innovative touch of local flavours, try the kimchi salmon alfredo ($11.90) and the mango prawn aglio e olio ($9.90). Your pasta bowl is also customisable: choose your preferred pasta from squid ink spaghetti and mushroom or beetroot pappardelle to spinach penne. Do note that dine-in is only available at the Republic Plaza outlet while Chinatown Point and Bugis Junction offers fuss-free takeaways.

This Halal joint has earned cult status among pasta lovers looking for a good deal. Despite their insistence on using premium ingredients in the handcrafted pasta, Tipo Pasta Bar still manages to keep things affordable. From dill and lemon fettuccine to saffron fusilli, everything is made from scratch. You can also create your own dish (from $9.90) – choose your pasta, pick your sauce and consider some toppings. For something hearty, try the beef ragu pasta with extra shavings of grana padano, a well-loved combination that's a little more expensive but still about $20. Apart from Aliwal, there are also outposts in Novena and Keong Saik but know that those only offer a fixed menu.
