Singapore's sunny weather makes it easy to enjoy a relaxing Sunday outdoors. If you take a stroll around East Coast Park or Gardens By The Bay, you'll see lots of people cycling, rollerblading or longboarding. The latter, especially, has regained popularity over the past few months. Longboarding is easy, convenient and fun – what's there not to love? And after your session, you can just pick up your boards and hop onto a train or MRT. Thinking of getting yourself your first – or tenth – longboard? These are the best longboard shops to check out in Singapore.

Gary Tay, 30, began with the goal of running an indoor skateboarding facility. Two and a half years in, a number of factors – the saturation of the skateboard market, high-nosery (skateboarders think they’re superior to longboarders), the joy of riding (as opposed to the skateboard’s emphasis on tricks) and the genre’s growing popularity – prompted Tay to specialise in longboard products.

He now has at least 300 longboard decks across ten brands, stocked in his hill-surrounded space. "Casual longboarding is great in Singapore as we have one of the best-paved networks," says the limelight-shy dual-boarder, who practises the more serious downhill and freeriding disciplines. As for the name of the shop: "The “Love” is there to remind us why we are doing it. The space is actually meant to be more than a shop: it’s also a hangout and meet-up point for longboarders," he explains.

Longboards $195-$595

Odyssey Boards

Odyssey Boards is Singapore's first longboard brand, with each piece designed and assembled in the Lion City. The brand sells both longboard completes and decks – all at affordable prices. Need an all-black set-up? Check out the Nightfall V2 42" Longboard Deck, a sleek board that doubles up as a fashion accessory. For something smaller, there's also a 28" cruiser that is a lot more portable.

The brand also believes in giving back. With each board purchased, Odyssey Boards will plant three trees in collaboration with One Tree Planted – in line with their effort to become a sustainable skate brand.

Price range: $157-$247
