Time Out says

It’s a grand spectacle every year when Singapore marks its birthday with the National Day Parade (NDP). And while scoring actual tickets to the main event can be tricky, there’s still a way to soak in the patriotic vibes and catch those dazzling fireworks without a seat at the Padang.

Although it’s not exactly a well-kept secret, plenty of folks head down during the NDP rehearsal dates to watch the same fireworks light up the skyline – and the best part is, it’s completely free. Some of the top vantage points include Gardens by the Bay East, the Esplanade, The Promontory, and the Helix Bridge. If you’re planning to head down, remember to arrive early as even rehearsals tend to pull in the crowds.

When can I watch the NDP fireworks?

Besides National Day itself, there are a couple of NDP rehearsals and previews to catch the National Day fireworks.

  • NDP Rehearsals: 21 and 28 June
  • NE Shows: 5, 12 and 19 July
  • NDP Previews: 26 July and 2 August
  • Actual NDP 2025: 9 August

What time do the National Day rehearsal fireworks start?

The main fireworks display usually begins at 8.15pm, followed by the national anthem. Here's a detailed schedule of events based on previous NDP rehearsals:

  • 6.10pm: Red Lions
  • 6.45pm: Jet planes and flag flypast
  • 7.15pm: Defence display
  • 7.30pm: First round of fireworks
  • 8.15pm: Main fireworks display

During the recent rehearsal on June 14, the fireworks displays took place at approximately 7.35pm, 7.45pm and 8.15pm. So if you're planning to head down for the upcoming rehearsals, take note of these timings and get a good spot in advance to catch the show.

Will there be fireworks in the heartlands?

Similar to previous years, there will be fireworks and celebrations at five heartland locations on August 10. Details have yet to be released, but here are last year’s locations for reference:

  • Yishun (field beside futsal arena)
  • Punggol (field beside Waterway Point)
  • Buona Vista (field beside Buona Vista MRT station)
  • Bishan (field opposite Bishan MRT Circle Line station)
  • Paya Lebar (field next to Paya Lebar Quarter 1)

They were accompanied by carnivals, live performances, and static displays from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), and the Singapore Police Force (SPF).
