Give us a break! That's probably how most of us feel right now. When the year started, no one could predict that we'll be having the year we had – new variations of the disease, another year of restrictions, seeing more permanent closures, practically working from home all year and more. And as tense as everyone might feel right now – we know that everything will be okay. Here are some reasons we're hanging on to till December 25 when our favourite annual holiday comes by. After all, some supermarkets have already started playing festive tunes so it's hard not to get into the mood...

We'll have an intimate Christmas with our loved ones

Do you remember how social gatherings were allowed in groups of eight at one point in this confusing year? Before it went to five and two and five and now back to two again. We've spent another year being careful and strategic with who we can invite, whose house to visit, who we choose to dine in with... and it really is quite exhausting. Whatever the situation is at Christmas, let's all raise a toast to the unnecessary drama and tension to any friend group and large families Covid-19 has caused and forgive each other. Even if we have to spend Christmas apart this year, let's make it one that's enjoyable and full of love.

"Singapore is the most fatigued city in the world."

Singapore wins accolades for many things – mostly good – but getting recognised as most fatigued is more of a wake-up call than a bad thing. It's no lie that the flip-flopping of restrictions have made us somewhat numb but still fully functioning in our roles at work, at home and also, in society. We've hardly had time to even think of fun or indulgence activities while navigating our health and safety. So if anything, on December 25, everyone who had to go through this year deserves a mandatory wellness day (or week).

Have a private dance party

No music at restaurants, shuttered music venues and no more late nights at the clubs have made Singapore a less fun place in 2021. And we know it will take a while before things will go back to normal in the live entertainment industry so for Christmas this year, whatever the situation is wherever you may be, turn it up to 11 and dance your heart out. You deserve to let your hair down for surviving 2021.

Have a 'cheat day' when it comes to being practical

We've had two intense years of huge changes, full of ups and downs. Our mental health has been affected in some way or another, we've had to make some major changes in our lifestyles and our finances have also taken a hit and we do deserve a short break from being in 'survival mode' all the time.

No travel? No problem

December would usually be the time most of us would be making full use of our annual leave and holidaying overseas with family or friends. Though travel is resuming slowly – with restrictions in place, of course, not everyone has the privilege to purchase a slightly more expensive (than usual) ticket, cover the costs of PCR tests and pay for a mandatory quarantine. That said, there's more reason to hype up and invest in Christmas on the island to lift everyone's spirits up. Use up those SingapoRediscover vouchers, be a tourist in our own city, spend the day exploring Singapore's gems and hidden trails – it can be quite fun.

It's time we got ourselves something really, really nice

Take this Christmas to indulge (within reason, of course) and get yourself something you want that will make you happy.
