Batam's gotten itself a bad rep as a city that's both boring and sleazy for years. Thankfully, that's changing with more of us heading there to wakeboard or play golf with our dads. In recent years, it has also become a big resort destination – thanks to its beaches, affordable massages, and amazing cuisine. The best part? It's just 45 minutes away from Singapore by ferry. We've rounded up the best resorts in Batam to book for a quick weekend getaway.

Looking at the interiors of the Woda Villa & Spa, you wouldn't even have guessed it's in Batam. The port city's first over-the-water villa is characterised by its clean lines and contemporary touches. Accommodation here comes in the form of two villas: the Woda Villa and Signature Villa.

Pamper yourself and combine your stay with a luxury spa experience – with options ranging from a Balinese aromatic spa to Lava Lulur, a type of treatment for the body that exfoliates the skin while strengthening the body and improving vitality and blood circulation.

The Tempats is the closest you can get to a Bali holiday without even getting on a flight. Located on a hill slope overlooking the greenery of the Indah Puri Golf Course in Batam, The Tempats is located just a 45-minute ferry ride from Singapore.

There are two villas: Tempat Beruang and Tempat Gembira, conceptualised in contemporary Balinese design mixed with ancient Chinese principles of Feng Shui. Both villas boast an open terrace and striking infinity pool flanked by lush greenery, reminiscent of luxury resorts in Ubud.

Dubbing itself as the first wellness resort in Batam, Sijori Resort & Spa is a hidden gem on the island. Is it a surprise that the resort's repeat guests include Qi Gong practitioners and health-conscious travellers looking for a place to rejuvenate and replenish their bodies? We think not. The stunning accommodation options range from the deluxe rooms overlooking picturesque sea views to bungalows perched atop a hilltop. And of course, Batam is synonymous with food.

At Sijori, five dining establishments ensure that you'll never go hungry – or ever have to leave the resort grounds. Tuck into a mouthwatering selection of popular Chinese and Indonesian dishes at the casual Courtyard Restaurant or opt for tasty Western cuisine or seafood barbecue at the Hillside Cafe. When night falls, head to the sky bar on the top floor, an ideal spot for a cocktail while marvelling at the sky full of stars.
