This space - part workshop, part gallery, part retail concept store – is the latest venture by Brand X, the non-profit arts organisation behind the now-defunct Queen Street Studio in Chippendale, and currently managing Heffron Hall in Darlinghurst and The Palace Studio in Marrickville.
Where Queen Street Studio was all about providing affordable space for performing and visual artists to develop work, Brand X Studio is focused on visual artists, and takes it a step further: it's a micro-business initiative geared towards helping the artists sell the work they've developed.
From August 2013, when it opens its doors, the BXS will offer six groups of six artists six-month residencies – free space to create, exhibit and sell their work. By the time the BXS commercial lease expires in three years, they will have had 36 resident artists.
