Bangarra Dance Theatre celebrates 30 years as Australia’s leading Indigenous performing arts company this year, and to mark the occasion, they are launching a new immersive installation, Knowledge Ground: 30 Years of Sixty Five Thousand. Created as a set of thematic “worlds” with lighting by Nick Schlieper and soundscapes by the late David Page, visitors can explore the set pieces, costumes, artefacts, projections, language recordings and archived footage from Bangarra’s best performances over the last three decades, and the concepts of Country, language and kinship that continues to inspire their work. The idea is that you can step inside a Bangarra show and learn how one is built from the ground-up, through a series of stunning immersive environments.
Accompanying the exhibition will be a new digital archive of the same name, designed to preserve Bangarra’s groundbreaking artistic legacy for posterity, and to share their history and achievements with the world.
