Time Out says

This heritage site was the Newcastle Police Station and lock up from 1861 until its closure in 1982. Re-opening as a cultural centre in 2007, the building now it functions as a multi-arts space showcasing local and contemporary Australian art. In addition to exhibitions they also run public programs and an artist-in-residence program.
