The concept is simple: you drink booze so that others can drink clean water. On Sunday February 17, the Baxter Inn is inviting bartenders from four other top bars (Ramblin' Rascal Tavern, Bulletin Place, Maybe Sammy and Lobo Plantation) into the bar to throw a big drinks making party, with all the proceeds going to 663toZERO – Mitch Horrocks's organisation that aims to reduce the number of people without access to clean drinking water around the world from 663 million to zero.
The Sydney event comes in the wake of similar events in Perth and Melbourne that raised over $23,000. The events give bar teams a chance to work alongside other members of the hospitality industry and reach customers they may not otherwise get to, while giving to a desperately important cause – everyone participating is donating their time, products and efforts.
Entry to the event (4-9.30pm) is free, with the takings from the drinks going to further the work of 663toZERO. No bookings are required; just rock on up. The official after party will be held at PS40.
Drink4Uganda events specifically help communities in Uganda, where Horrocks's invention, 'OKUZi’, is allowing people to create clean drinking water while cooking a meal.
