This old boozer is sticking to its guns: live music and fried chicken burgers
At this point it would be fair to call the Bald Faced Stag a diamond in the rough. But that's a good thing, because there aren't many old school, working class pubs left in Sydney's Inner West so we should treasure the ones we have. Here they're operating on a two policy platform: they're right behind live music with both a dedicated gig room and live gigs in the public bar, plus they fry a mean chicken burger. Chicken and Sons run the little canteen kitchen out the back of the pub and they produce a crisp battered chicken fillet that they stuff into a slightly sweet sesame seed bun with lettuce, cheese and aioli. If you like spice then it's totally worth ordering the super hot chipotle aioli instead. On tap they've got the classics, so expect Reschs, White Rabbit, New, Little Creatures, James Squire and Carlton Draught, all of which go down easy with a soundtrack of Snow Patrol and Chilli Peppers while the surfing is on the telly.
