We don’t normally need much coaxing to visit Petersham’s Oxford Tavern – a hip den of pool, hot dogs, craft beer and smoked meats courtesy of the backyard American-style smoker, Black Betty, in the beer garden.
But now there’s an even better reason to head down for the Oxford’s famous $10 Bloody Mary this Sunday, June 5 from noon. Surry Hills burger meisters Ze Pickle are taking over the Oxford’s kitchen to serve up four signature burgers plus one using the super-tasty smoked meats from Black Betty herself.
Black Betty’s meats take three days to prepare, including traditional spice rubs and long, slow cooking for that fall-apart melting tenderness. Black Betty favourites such as the pulled pork burger with barbecue sauce, beef brisket and lamb ribs served with a white bread roll and slaw will also be available from the beer garden kiosk. Kiwi six-piece Swampy Tonk will be providing the tunes from 2pm.
Burger fans are advised not to leave it too late in the day as the pop-up lasts only until everything is sold out. If you’ve never been, the Oxford Tavern is a short walk from both Petersham and Stanmore stations, and about ten minutes via Shanks’s pony from Parramatta Road.
