Time Out says

Australian and Chinese performers come together at Town Hall for night of classical and traditional song and dance

Classical musicians from China and Australia will share the stage for this variety show in honour of the Lunar New Year. Hear some of the brightest musical stars from the Shaanxi province in Northern China performing opera, pop and folk songs, including soprano Liu Xiaojie, tenor He Zhen, tenor (and Shaanxi Opera and Dance Theatre director) Ren Yong, and erhu player Liu Xin. (The erhu is a traditional two-stringed instrument, sometimes called a Chinese violin). They’ll be joined by Opera Australia soloist Victoria Lambourn to make this a truly multicultural celebration.

In addition to the soloists, there will be spectacular dance, acrobatics and martial arts performances featuring the traditional culture and identity of Shaanxi province. A highlight will be the “Hanging Red Lanterns” dance by the Shaanxi Song and Dance Troupe, which is especially relevant during the Lunar New Year when red lanterns are hung to bring good luck. The gala is presented by Ausfeng Events, a cultural exchange institute, and the China Cultural Centre in Sydney.
