Journey into epic soundscapes when the Sydney Symphony Orchestra joins forces with Finland’s greatest conductor at the Sydney Opera House

Finnish composer Jean Sibelius is regarded as one music’s most esteemed artists, whose sweeping and romantic symphonies are still performed around the world today. There is perhaps no one better to bring his work to life for modern day audiences than leading Finnish conductor Osmo Vänskä, who was dubbed “‘one of the most important contemporary interpreters of Sibelius”’ by the New York Times. Luckily for Sydney audiences, Vänskä is soon heading to the Sydney Opera House’s Concert Hall (April 24, 26 & 27) to perform Sibelius’ rich and evocative music with the full power of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Vänskä will bring to life Sibelius’s richly textured music inspired by Finnish myths, legends and folklore, including the beloved ‘The Swan of Tuonela’ and the story of the world’s creation in ‘Luonnotar’. Experience the thrill of a live orchestra paired with a powerful voice when Vänskä reunites with his frequent collaborator Helena Juntunen, the acclaimed Swedish soprano, for a selection of Sibelius’s songs.

The performances start at 8pm, and you also have the option to join a pre-concert talk by Phillip Sametz (45 minutes before the performance, in the Northern Foyer). Tickets are on sale now from $50 (plus booking fee). Get yours here.
