Curated by House of Slé mother Bhenji Ra with appearances by international vogue stars and a soundtrack by renowned ballroom DJs, Sissy Ball is a throbbing party influenced by the high-spirited history of New York’s underground ballroom scene.
Vogue battles – think of it as a duelling dance-off with an excess of sass – are a celebration of identity, fluidity, attitude and turning a fierce look. Ballroom culture can be felt resonating across all artforms – and yes, it came before the hit Madonna song from 1990. The closest you’ll get to walking onto the set of Pose and a huge celebration of the talented queer performers we have down under, Sissy Ball could well be the coolest thing you’ll see at Mardi Gras.
