A Mardi Gras party with a sassy competitive edge
Sydney gets its very own vogue battle. Curated by artist Bhenji Ra, Sissy Ball sees houses from Australia and New Zealand walk it out on the runway with an accompanying, throbbing party that conjures the vibrant history of New York’s underground ballroom scene.
The houses are Slé (representing Australia), Fafswag, Coven and House of Envy (all repping New Zealand), competing for the approval of New York choreographer Leiomy who will be judging. If you've ever watched a vogue battle, you'll know they're nothing without a rhythmic commentator and New York MC Dashaun will be on the mic throughout the walks. There'll also be pumping live sets from New Jersey’s MikeQ, blossoming local superstars Electric Fields, rapper Quay Dash and Angel-Ho.
First release tickets sold out long ago, but we've been assured there'll be enough on the door for those busting to get amongst the action. And why wouldn't you be busting with Sydney's first competitive foray into the storied and exciting world of Vogue.
