A cosy streetside hideout, aromatic Burgundy wine, and an inventive Japanese menu put together by an actual sushi master. It may not be a combination you'd expect, but it sounds pretty good to us.
Paddington's Wine Library has enlisted the expertise of sushi master Toshi Oe, of Surry Hills' Toko and the CBD's Masuya, to host two intricate, produce-driven dining experiences on two Sundays in July. His 'Bluefin & Burgundy’ menu will introduce you to plates like fresh bluefin tuna, oyster moro miso, baby scallop Aomori, Nitenmori sashimi, eel emaki and wagyu beef – and for a little extra, you can add on extra courses like caviar bumps, or Brillat Savarin cheese infused with recently dug-up truffles.
Tickets for the experience will set you back $150 per person – and you can add on matched wines for $95 for an 'Off the beaten Burgundy track' wine match, or an even more premium pairing for $190 pp. If you're content to forgo the matching, you can also order a glass or bottle off the a la carte drinks menu.
It all comes together on Sunday, July 19 and July 26. Book online here for sitting times of noon-2.45pm, 12.15-3pm, 2.45-5.30pm and 3-5.30pm.
