Out at Penrith county, they do two things on a grand scale: religion and houses. It's Hillsong and McMansions as far as the eye can see. Just a little further still, and you’ll find Cucina Casureccia. It’s an interesting set-up – Maria, Lucia and Paul Di Luca are cooking straight out of their family kitchen, and serving you on the deck. Need to go to the bathroom? You’ll be washing your hands in the laundry sink. Get into the whole cucina rustica vibe and say hi to the hens nesting in the prickly pear bush. The menu changes each month, though you can always be guaranteed bread straight out of the backyard wood fired oven and great house-made pasta. Everything else is seasonal, though we notice there’s no chicken on the menu. There is, however, prickly pear with the rum baba. Our advice? Make a day of it (it’s an hour’s drive out of the CBD). BYO and take a crew for Sunday lunch.
