Grandma’s Little Bakery
Time Out says
Alexandria’s got some home style baking amongst the factories
Make yourself at home because home-style cooking and baking is their specialty at this Alexandria bakery. Turn up for breakfast any time and order from the shakshuka range. It's the star dish. The classic shakshuka has traditional eggs cooked with Grandma's popular tomato and capsicum sauce, served in a hot pan with bread on the side. But there's also the spinach version, which adds olive oil, spinach and feta to the mix. Meatlovers can go for the beef bolognese shakshuka while the wood fired eggplant version with Labane cheese dressing is great for vegetarians.
The hearty dish trail continues with Grandma's casseroles which are also popular. Try Grandma Mazal's Morrocan beef casserole or dig into the traditional chicken and vege serving. Either way, meals are done well and are warm, with a comforting air of homeliness.
Grandma's looks after the kids, too. There are mini meals for little ones, who can also kill time in the play area aferwards. Adults can enjoy wine options from Canberra and the region with an accommodating beverage list, which has naturally has your juice and coffee essentials as well.
They really do cover all the bases of a great café here, with plenty of gluten free, vegetarian and dairy free options as well as take home dinners.
