Mr Toppers

And now, surely, we have reached peak-Bondi with the arrival of a new hole-in-the-wall café by the name of Mr Toppers. They aren’t actually calling it a café though – it’s a toast bar. We have finally arrived in a post-kitchen era where we even go out exclusively for a humble slice of toasted bread. As the name implies, here it’s all about what goes on top of your toast. The only thing Sydneysiders love to Instagram more than the Icebergs pool is avocado on toast. It's the house specialty here – and at $11 a pop you'd expect very good things from this ubiquitous breakfast. Luckily they are doing it right, with a thick cut of white or soy and linseed (sourced from a local baker in Bondi Junction) topped with a big scoop of mashed avo, dotted with chilli flakes and feta. If you want something more substantial try the Top Lunch featuring a chicken Waldorf mix with chicken, mayo, celery and walnuts. Or swap savoury for sweet with the B1 which sees sliced banana, toasted muesli, PB and honey piled on top. You’ll also find some good brews, including the coco espresso, which blends refreshing coconut water and two shots of the caffeinated black gold. There’s nothing new about sliced, toasted bread, but we can also see why this place will pull in customers. It's got a cute fit out with super friendly staff and a prime location along Bondi's premiere strip, Campbell Parade. Add that to the fact that the only thing in our fridge right now is three-day old pizza and some mustard, it's an easy sell to ditch your home efforts and trade up at Mr Toppers.
