If you’re an Ashfield local, chances are you’ve spent a fair few nights at the Polish Club. What started as a humble house party for Sydney’s Polish community has grown into a multi-venue hub complete with a café, restaurant, deli and function space. Maybe you know it for its Saturday disco nights, its menu stacked with Polish classics including pierogi and golonka, or maybe you’ve been meaning to swing by. Either way, here’s your cue.
After a major revamp, the Polish Club has reopened with a fresh new modern look. Its restaurant, Sto Lat, has expanded the line-up of traditional Polish dishes, adding steak tartare, potato pancakes and gołąbki (pork and veal cabbage rolls). Fear not — the beloved pierogi remain, alongside plenty of modern plates for the less adventurous. Just grabbing supplies? Drop into the on-site Polka Deli for Polish sausages, cakes, frozen pierogi and other tasty take-home treats.
This summer, Sto Lat is rolling out a Passport to European Summer series, where each week takes you on a culinary trip to a different corner of Europe. Each instalment spotlights a different country, with Cyprus kicking things off before the menu moves through Portugal, the Netherlands, Austria, Moldova, Malta, Romania, Belgium, Ireland, Serbia, Iceland and Estonia.
December also brings a stacked festive program, with Christmas carols, gingerbread ornament workshops and a sprawling European Christmas market on December 7, packed with food stalls, crafts and live entertainment.
