Silk Road, a new Xinjiang restaurant just up from Emperor's Garden Barbecue, is offering some of the best examples of Uighur food we've had in Sydney.
Dry green beans fried with dried chilli are vegelicious, while an incredibly spicy stew of chicken on the bone, potato, capsicum, big slices of fried garlic and a large dose of chilli is framed with juicy dumpling knots.
You could probably live your life quite happily without trying the 'Chinese Hamburger' which is a large, overly doughy Chinese style bun filled with shredded lamb, onion and capsicum. But the lamb kebabs rubbed with cumin and other spicy goodness are juicy, essential eating.
The other thing you should know about Silk Road is the service is excellent - prompt, friendly and they never tell you you've over-ordered (even when you have).
Take a trip down the Silk Road for some of the best Uighur food in town.
