If avoiding the hassle of planning and hosting a Christmas lunch sounds like you – join the club, frankly. Does a fancy festive culinary experience minus the sinkful of dishes appeal instead? Then listen up. The Star Sydney is inviting diners to celebrate in style with the launch of their Christmas Day menus. Sydneysiders will be treated to a range of unforgettable dining experiences, from a fabulous five-course luncheon to a shared seafood smorgasbord. Here’s the lowdown on where to dine sans the stress.

If you’re keen on a classic steakhouse experience with waterfront views and a fine-dining twist, then Black is your one. A cocktail or glass of Champers is offered upon arrival, after which you’re in for a delectable four-course lunch. Main offerings include turkey with macadamia nut stuffing, striploin grain-fed Angus MBS 3+, or Murray cod from the charcoal oven. The festive feast is tied up into a neat bow with a chocolate parfait, cherry, amaretto custard and gingerbread crumble. Grab a seat with a view for you and yours for $225pp, with the option to add a cheeky two-hour beverage package for an extra $95pp.

With its olde-worlde charm and authentic Italian offerings, Cucina Porto is perfect for those looking for a romantic Christmas lunch reminiscent of long, opulent meals enjoyed along the Amalfi Coast. Diners will be delighted by the festively curated five-course menu, and revel in an inviting selection of antipasti, including stone-baked bread with olive tapenade, vodka and citrus-cured salmon with minutina salad, ox heart tomato and burrata, and bresaola salad with goat’s curd. For an end to the meal, Italian-born executive chef Martino Pulito will also be serving up a sweet Italian Pandoro millefoglie for dessert with mixed berry, mascarpone and chocolate cream. For those craving comforting, honest and simple food using the best ingredients, land yourself and your loved ones a premium five-course set menu for $125pp, and add an optional beverage package for $55-$75pp.

For the seafood lover, there’s little better than finding a new spot to share local produce with loved ones. With their impeccable service, locally sourced ingredients and minimal waste mission, Flying Fish offers the opportunity to experience the best Australia has to offer. For freshly shucked rock oysters, smoked eel doughnuts with sea lettuce cream and brook trout roe or bay lobster tortellini with sweet corn and shellfish butter, you’re in the right place. Satisfy your sweet tooth with roasted strawberries with honey custard and sheep’s milk yoghurt sorbet, mango parfait with lemon myrtle cream and torched meringue, or a blood plum pudding with wattleseed caramel and gingerbread ice cream. Nab their premium share-style menu for $195pp.

If you’re after somewhere that combines innovation with tradition and astounds you with the sheer detail in their dishes, you can’t go wrong with Sokyo. Having spent time in his dad’s Japanese restaurant growing up in California, executive chef Chase Kojima pays homage to his upbringing. For lucky diners, Kojima is offering three special dishes this Christmas with his signature edgy flair. From an incredible lobster sashimi platter with 12 kinds of fish and a whole 1kg lobster to share, and a melt-in-your-mouth lamb galbi with ssam lettuce, to a creamy King George Whiting with caviar beurre blanc, chef Kojima’s carefully curated menu is an ode to Sydney’s best summer produce. Bag a spot here and enjoy the à la carte menu.

If you’re on the hunt for a feast for the senses in the shape of a modern buffet, Harvest Buffet is where it’s at. Fancy the freshest sushi, oysters, prawns, crabs and mussels? Or pining for a British-inspired roast from the carvery? Perhaps a slice of pizza? Why not – it’s Christmas. Level-up your buffet game, and load up on carbs and local seafood alike for this unique smorgasbord of delightful choices. Harvest Buffet is the perfect place to please everyone on Christmas Day – you’ll thank us later.
