This app makes banking safer for women

The Up app can reduce the financial risks of a relationship

The Up Banking app makes it easy and fun to save, budget and pay bills – but its latest innovation is one that is truly needed in this world.

If you are sharing money goals with a partner, then once upon a time your options were pretty limited: namely a shared bank account. And with that comes all kinds of potential problems, from the relatively benign (they overspent the budget this month) to the more sinister when things get messy.

With 2Up, you can keep total control over your personal finances – your partner can only see your shared stuff. Avatars show exactly who has spent what next to each transaction. And If the relationship doesn’t pan out? In just a few taps you’re no longer financially tied to them. Opening and closing 2Up can all be done through the app

Up has already addressed safety issues for women in banking with custom-made tools to prevent and stop payment abuse (the sending of abusive messages via banking) – the team actively works with the person who’s experiencing abuse to find a safe solution. Now 2Up offers a great way to maintain your financial independence while working with a partner towards a shared goal.

Got a friend about to move in with someone? Send her the 2Up link.

It’s well established now that financial exploitation is one of the weapons of domestic abuse, and an app that can help protect women is one that Time Out is more than happy to endorse.

Full disclosure: Up are kindly paying Time Out a small fee if you click on their site. Check out the product & offer T&Cs at up.com.au/terms. Up accounts issuer Bendigo & Adelaide Bank.
