Fittingly timed during the week of International Women’s Day, Gear Up Girl invites riders of all ages to cycle in a safe and welcoming community, with the aim of shaking up the statistic that only one in four riders in NSW are women.
Both beginners and seasoned cyclists are catered for with different routes to choose from that stretch for 20km, 40km, 60km and 80km. All participants begin at Bicentennial Park and finish at Don Lucas Reserve in Cronulla, passing through some of the city’s best bike paths, as well as South Sydney’s picturesque coastline, along the way.
When you’ve crossed the finish line, celebrate your achievement at the post-race festival, where there’ll be food, drink, music, market stalls and even bike mechanics on hand to tune up your wheels.
The rides promote and support heart health, highlighting the fact that cardio exercise like cycling can significantly the reduce risk of heart disease.
