Sick of walking laps around the block? Can’t bear the thought of another at-home HIIT circuit? Don’t worry, we get it. With current restrictions in Greater Sydney only permitting exercise with one other person, and no further than five kilometres from your home, motivation can be hard to muster. But there may just be a workout you haven’t yet considered: kayaking on Sydney Harbour.

The husband-and-wife team at Sydney by Kayak are offering one-on-one fitness sessions for keen health enthusiasts who are looking for a fun, safe way to exercise out on the water. You can opt for a pre-work paddle at 7am to catch the sunrise, or break up your day with a mid-morning outing. All tours are led by an experienced guide, and can be tailored to suit your kayaking capabilities  think everything from a leisurely recovery sesh to high intensity, fast-paced interval training.

When you’re not working up a sweat the views of Berrys Bay and Goat Island are well worth admiring, and if conditions are calm enough you may even get to glide right underneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Departing Lavender Bay boat ramp, the one-hour workout costs $135. The entire experience is Covid-safe, and your guide will ensure all equipment including life jackets, paddles and the kayak itself have been sanitised. Masks will also need to be worn until you can safely socially distance, and the only other things you'll need to bring are sunglasses, warm clothes and a water bottle or coffee for some extra sustenance. Sound like your idea of a good time? Get paddling here.
