Time Out says

Buckle up for a coming-of-age road trip and get lost in the story

National Theatre of Parramatta is revving up the fun this October for the world premiere of Felicity Castagna’s multi-award-winning novel, Girls in Boys’ Cars. This sophisticated stage adaptation directed and adapted by Priscilla Jackman invites passengers on an accidental Thelma and Louise-esque road trip with a whirlwind of trouble ahead.

Ziggy Resnick (Griffin Theatre Company’s A is for Apple) and Nikita Waldron (Winner of the Australian Theatre for Young People 2021 Rebel Wilson Comedy Commission) play the leading roles of Asheeka and Rosa; a fierce and adventurous young duo determined to break free from the constraints of cultural expectations and societal pressures.

Their journey through Western Sydney and regional NSW in a stolen car takes a gripping turn when Asheeka goes missing and Rosa lands in juvenile jail wondering about her best mate.

Author Felicity Castagna said, “I'm delighted that Priscilla Jackman will be bringing all these characters, who have existed in my head for so long, to the stage. I think audiences can expect a daring production about daring girls that will appeal to everyone who has always wanted to escape where they come from and see what's out there in the world.”

Girls in Boys’ Cars is the latest addition to Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta’s fresh and ever-evolving program that spotlights authentic, inclusive voices. It will play at Riverside Theatres from October 19 to November 3 with tickets available from $28 here.
