Sydney Opera House's winter cabaret show has moxie to spare
Created by Lisa Fa’alafi (of Pacifica dance-theatre collective Polytoxic) and DJ and sound designer Kim ‘Busty Beatz’ Bowers (formerly of ’90s all-girl rockers Spdfgh), Hot Brown Honey is a stereotype-crushing alt-cabaret concoction starring First Nation femmes from Aboriginal Australian, Samoan, Tongan, Māori, Indonesian and South African backgrounds. Think La Clique – but with a feminst edge.
Between them the cast of six (including Materharere Hope Haami, Juanita Duncan, Ofa Fotu and Crystal Stacey) boast World Championship beatboxing skills, funk credentials, International circus troupe experience, plus contemporary dance, ballet and hip hop.
The Honeys are taking over the Studio for 5 nights only – before taking their show to Edinburgh Fringe.
