Time Out says

This female-led Australian production is laced with nostalgia for 1990s pop

Gather your girl gang and travel back in time to the era of low-rise jeans and Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes-inspired rap at the world premiere of Girl Band. This new Australian play by award-winning playwright Katy Warner and the New Ghosts Theatre Company brings together ’90s beats, Spice Girls-inspired choreography and five of the feistiest pop divas you’ve ever seen hit the stage.

With an impressive team of 22 female and non-binary theatre makers, Girl Band challenges the exploitation of women in the music industry. The play looks back to 1994 where record label managers Craig and Darren have created the girl band to end all girl bands. As the Sensation Girls get older and bolder, the group realises they don’t know who they are anymore and start fighting for what they want.

Girl Band will premiere as part of the National Theatre of Parramatta’s True West program at the Riverside Theatres from May 18-27. The play is directed by Sydney Theatre Award winner Lucy Clements (Albion) and features a top cast including Amy Hack (Griffin Theatre Company’s Ghosting the Party), Jade Fuda (Sport for Jove’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Meg Clarke (Australian Theatre for Young People’s Past the Shallows).

The stage is set and the stars are ready. Book your tickets starting at $49 here.
