Courtroom drama meets contemporary issues in this theatrical experiment by Powerhouse Youth Theatre and Griffin Theatre Company
Powerhouse Youth Theatre and director Karen Therese are transforming Griffin's Stables Theatre into a courtroom for two weeks in August, and instigating a Truth and Reconciliation Tribunal – presided over by Darug/Yuin elder Rhonda Dixon-Grovenor. The purpose? To interrogate the way the Australian government treats and talks about Indigenous Australians and asylum seekers.
The Tribunal is comprised of artists, activists, refugees and lawyers, and will involve performed conversations. Each performance will also feature more spontaneous contributions by guest speakers and audience members.
The key participants in Tribunal are Paul Dwyer, Katie Green, Rhonda Grovenor Dixon, Mahdi Mohammadi, Karen Therese and Jawad Yaqoubi.
