Charismatic performer Inua Ellams recounts his life as an immigrant in an evening of poetry and music
Inua Ellams is poet, performer, playwright and designer. Born in Nigeria in 1984 to a Muslim father and Christian mother, Ellams fled with his family to England at age 12. Now, he’s coming to Australia to tell his story.
Ellams will recount his remarkable life story as an immigrant in an evening of hip hop inspired poems and amusing anecdotes. He’ll touch on escaping fundamentalist Islam, experiencing prejudice and making friends in Dublin, performing at the Royal National Theatre in London and having a wine with the Queen.
An Evening with an Immigrant will explore national identity and belonging from a critical and first hand perspective.
