The humble avo: brunch staple, chip dip hero and symbol of millennial-boomer intergenerational divisions. It’s fair to say the avocado is already established as an impressively versatile food – one we’re particularly passionate about here in Australia. However, this avo-inspired wellness weekend promises to reveal even more uses for this multi-talented fruit.
Avotherapy offers a celebration of the mood-boosting health benefits of avocados, explored through a range of workshops, activities and wellness treatments.
Sydneysiders can become lean, green, avo-perfected machines as they take part in an “avocardio” workout – described as a combination of aerobics and yoga – followed by complementary avocado smoothies and healthy energy snacks (yes, they’re made from avocado as well).
You can also try an avocado facial and learn about the wider health benefits of an avo-rich diet from dietitian and author of The Nude Nutritionist Lyndi Cohen. Then it’s time for the avocado hacks workshop, which will include how-to guides for growing your own avocado plant at home and how to create natural fabric dye from the often-discarded avocado pit.
Entry to this weekend of activities, which takes place October 12-13 at the Paramount Recreation Club in Surry Hills, is free, but places are limited so securing a spot through the online registration form is essential.
