Waking up next weekend, you might notice the sweet scent of custard tarts in the air. That's because on Sunday March 15, the Inner West Council will transform a little corner of Petersham into a haven of all things Portuguese. Expect a vivid display of art, music, craftsmanship, food – and a whole lot of wine.
The all-day festival will feature stalllholders spruiking Sangria, Portuguese barbecue, and mouth-watering churros. Interested in picking up something new? Heavenly delicacies aside, there'll be an Azulejo mural workshop to dabble in, as well as screen-printing and pastry rolling classes on offer. And how can we talk about Portugal without mentioning soccer? A soccer skills workshop in the afternoon is an ideal pick for all the die-hard Ronaldo fans.
Head down to Petersham and wander through the streets for a local party with a bit of international flavour. Festival-goers can purchase artisanal goods and homewares from local stallholders throughout the day, and there's a full line-up of traditional music and dance. The festival will run from 11am–5pm around Audley Street and Fisher Street in Petersham. Entry is totally free.
