Time Out says

Head to Maroubra Beach to celebrate Australian surf culture with carnival rides, surf comps and many cries of shakas by the sand

It might be a little chilly for even the bravest of Bondi Icebergs, but ocean lovers will still be congregating on the beach for this fully sick surf party on July 28. The Beach Breaks Carnival will roll in at noon after the crowds cheer on competitors in the Surfing NSW Grommets title from 9am.

The late surf and lifesaving master Barry Rodgers will also be honoured with a section of the park along Marine Parade named after him, before new members are inducted into the Surfing Walk of Fame on the promenade over lunch.

After the competitive sets, you can ride on the teacups and Ferris wheel, listen to live music and DJs, fly down a giant slide and play lawn games. There’ll also be a food truck feast of sizzling gozleme, dumplings and all your carnival classics – hot dogs, churros and other warming fried things.
