The best way to buy Indigenous art, jewellery and authentic Aboriginal food is directly from Indigenous creatives and makers. The Blak Markets make this accessible for Sydneysiders by hosting popular pop-up retail events that also give Indigenous performers, storytellers and chefs a chance to show off their craft. The next market will have a Christmas theme, and will see 23 Aboriginal stallholders at Bare Island in La Perouse.
They’ll be offering everything from silk scarves with Indigenous designs to carved emu eggs, prints, soaps, handmade jewellery, and products made from medicinal native plants. Beyond the stalls, you can take part in a weaving workshop, see dance and music performances, and let the kids get creative in family art classes and storytelling sessions.
Entry to Bare Island cost $2.50 and is free for children under five.
