You can only wander the halls of this historic mansion once a year, so make time for a tour of the Georgian beauty during the open weekend on September 22-23. There’s multiple one-hour walking tours of the 80 illustrious rooms and the garden of rare botanicals and flower beds which will be in full bloom by mid-spring.
Beside this impressive architecture and well-kempt greenery, the building's significance lies in its original inhabitants. The estate was established by John Macarthur – an early pioneer of Australia’s wool industry – and his wife Elizabeth. Their youngest son William was a keen botanist and horticulturist, and is the man behind Camden Park’s sprawling gardens.
After exploring the 187-year-old house, you can relax among the flowers, enjoying a sophisticated Devonshire tea or classic Aussie barbecue at this family-friendly weekend.
