Time Out says

Music, food and fun are set to take over one of southwest Sydney’s busiest streets over one big weekend

For one weekend only, Campsie’s main drag will transform into an energetic street festival celebrating southwest Sydney food and culture.

Busy Beamish Street will be closed to traffic on Saturday and Sunday May 21-22, the bitumen instead lined with café-style seating, games, roaming performance artists and children's entertainers, as well as plenty of food stalls dishing out tasty Chinese-Malaysian cuisine. Expect sizzling hot snacks, moreish desserts and refreshing drinks from neighbourhood favourites including Albee’s Kitchen and Malaysian Hometown Hawker, plus a durian stall by the Thorny Fruit Co with complete with Musang King durian ice creams.

Around the corner ANZAC Mall will also be abuzz with activity. A verdant garden installation will surround a main stage hosting performances, while colourful street decorations and umbrellas line the plaza. Grab a bite before shaking out your limbs to sets from beloved local DJs including Alice Tauv, or groove along to some live jazz.

There will be performances and experiences for the whole family curated by cultural practitioner Dylan Goh, including tricycle experiences with Filipino artist Rosell Flatley; a kids’ Lion Dance workshop by Jin Wu Koon; and dance presentations and workshops by Suara Indonesian Dance. Schools and dance groups will also perform, with the highlight being a dance battle curated by Kapow on the Sunday.

Amid the many things to see and do make sure to check out Storybox, a two-metre tall interactive, digital cube. The cube has been in Campsie for the last few months and displays stories and artworks from the community. During the festival a roaming photographer will document additional stories that will be uploaded live to the Storybox. The festival will culminate with Dancing in the Streets, where young and old can dance around and interact directly with the Storybox.

Campsie Street Festival is being held as part of the NSW Government’s Festival of Place Open Streets program, encouraging people to get out and about while enjoying everything our vibrant suburbs have to offer. Campsie, with its rich multicultural landscape and food-loving populace, is an obvious contender.
