This year we’re seeing a lot of innovative takes on Santa photos under physical distancing precautions, but Sydney’s beautiful Queen Victoria Building takes the cake (and tiny sandwiches) with its extravagant solution. While we can’t expect to actually sit on Santa’s lap this year, you’ll be sitting in the lap of luxury as you join Santa and his helpers in the tea room on the third floor of the QVB.
People of all ages can book in for High Tea with Santa, so you can sip tea and nibble on scones and tiny treats during a one-hour experience where you can take unlimited traditional Santa photos. A professional photographer will also be on hand to capture a family photo with Santa at his throne. There are also Sensitive Santa sessions available to book before the centre opens for children who’d be more comfortable with a lower impact environment (until Dec 22).
Children don’t get all the festive fun, however. For grownups who feel they’ve earned a place on the nice list this year, the twilight Cocktails with Santa experience will get you into the spirit(s). A high tea designed by head chef, Rob Crichton, is matched with bespoke Christmas cocktails including a Gingerbread Espresso Martini and Christmas Tea Punch. You’ll also be able to capture selfies with Santa, or leave it to the professional photographer.
Cocktails with Santa costs $75 (including high tea and two cocktails) and is available to book on select days until December 19, with one-hour sessions from 5.30-6.30pm and 7-8pm. Book here.
There are extremely limited spaces left for the daytime High Tea with Santa, which is $55 for a one-hour bookings until Christmas Eve, with sessions between 7.30am and noon.
Looking for more festive drinks? It’s Christmas everyday at this over-the-top tinsel-themed bar in Kings Cross.
