In the Sydney region's Indigenous language, "Damulay Ngurang" translates to "friendship place", a term that couldn’t be more spot on for the Mother’s Day celebrations that will be taking place at Barangaroo Reserve on May 8.
When it comes to Mother’s Day festivities in Sydney, this one is pretty special.
Damulay Ngurang is all about connection, built on the importance of celebrating parents, mothers and caregivers in a rich community setting that brings the ancient into the present in a way that both delights, and makes sense to everyone lucky enough to see it.
Starting at 9am, this totally free event will include a smoking ceremony, interactive Indigenous dance performances, weaving workshops, native flora crown making and a series of immersive storytelling circles. To top it all off, Walkabout Coffee Van will be offering the first 450 people who stop by a free breakfast (that’s right – like, totally free) of Indigenous inspired dishes, including; lemon myrtle and bush honey cupcakes, crocodile sausage rolls; and wattle seed shortbread. The opportunities are truly endless.
With the fun finishing up at noon, this celebration at the Sea Wall Lawn at Barangaroo is a perfect way to kick off your Mother’s Day, with it bringing you community, connection, and at the end of the day - a whole lotta’ heart.
After all, what more is there?
