Bougie high tea experiences to have in Sydney

These afternoon teas at the Langham Sydney offer nostalgia, sweet treats and a touch of class

The Langham Hotel in London is reportedly the birthplace of the traditional afternoon tea, and the Sydney hotel of the same name is keeping the tradition alive with a special series of afternoon high teas in April and May. From comforting warm scones to delicate finger sandwiches, Kitchens on Kent at the Langham evokes both welcome nostalgia and childlike delight with these four afternoon tea experiences to enjoy in their lavish Harbour Room. And as a bonus, the hotel has Wedgewood as a global partner – the venerable fine china and porcelain makers whose tea cups, saucers and plates are the epitome of British afternoon tea accoutrements. One lump or two?

When: May 5-25

If you’re wondering if the Langham’s collaboration with French luxury jewellery brand Cartier lives up to expectations, wonder no more. The executive chefs and pastry chefs at the Langham have successfully crafted bespoke Cartier-inspired sweets and pastries authentically reflecting the world-renowned brand. Sample the delectable Tasmanian smoked salmon blini with dill cream cheese and Avruga caviar before delighting in the elegant strawberry basil macarons. Head to the Langham’s Cartier Afternoon Tea May 5-25 for between $118-$128, and get ready for a limited edition experience like no other. For the ultimate Cartier touch, ask for a glass of Cartier Champagne with Pommery to go with it (at an extra cost).

When: Sun May 22

Top classical pianist Simon Tedeschi and celebrated vocalist-violinist George Washingmachine are performing works by George Gershwin at this musical afternoon tea in the Ballroom. Be entertained by the dazzling duo as they perform not only Gershwin but Cole Porter, Oscar Peterson and classics like 'Let's Get Lost', 'But Not for Me', 'I Got Rhythm' and more from the Great American Songbook. Savour the Langham's Afternoon Tea while the concert unfolds plus a class of sparkling on arrival. Tickets are $223.34 per person.
