The bushfires in NSW are finally under control (hooray!), but now the work of recovery begins. We've lost 18 million hectares of bushland which means conservation efforts are more important than ever. That's why Wild Life Sydney Zoo is hosting a special fundraising event to support Australian animals impacted by the bushfires.
The fundraiser involves an after-hours private tour of the zoo, followed by a sausage sizzle and educational talks. There will be five tours commencing every half-hour from 5:30-7:30pm, when keepers will guide groups of 20 people through the zoo's native enclosures housing kangaroos, koalas and other bush critters. Up-close encounters with snakes and koalas are available for an extra donation.
After the tour, you'll enjoy a rooftop BBQ featuring a cash bar stocked with beers, ciders and wines sourced from bushfire-affected communities. While you enjoy your dinner you'll learn about the current crisis being faced by Australian wildlife as well as the work being done by the Wild Life Conservation Fund, which has donated more than $20,000 to bushfire appeals since November. Tickets to this worthy event cost $55.
