If you’ve ever visited the Hunter Valley, you’ll know what’s on the top of the ‘to do’ list: drinking wine and eating everything. So it’s fitting that this fertile region hosts a festival so you can fill up on exactly that. The Hunter Valley Food and Wine Festival is a two-month-long gastronomic love affair, with over 40 events showcasing the regions edible produce and finest chefs and winemakers.
The versatile program mixes booze and food with film, music and a barrel-burning bonfire, and includes degustation dinners at gourmet restaurants, wine and cocktail masterclasses, cooking workshops and tasting trails.
You’ll be run off your feet knocking on cellar doors and going on tasting tours of the 150 or so wineries perched on region’s green hills. If you’re a little too merry to drive, make a weekend of it with an accommodation package – think cosy cottages, private chefs, buffet breakfasts and horse riding through vineyards.
There’s something to suit most budgets, but you’ll want to book well in advance to ensure a spot in your desired tours, tasting, workshops and accommodation. Festival events are held across many locations in the Hunter Valley region over the two-months of food and wine celebrations.
