Blend wine from Hunter Valley with the sights and smells of the sea
The Hunter Valley is packing their picnic bags and bring a bounty of produce with a vinous focus from their fertile region to Balmoral Beach. Head to the Esplanade on October 7 for a day of wine tastings, cooking demonstrations and live entertainment.
Entry to this sommelier heaven is free, and there’s tasting packages going for $26-$31 so you can wander the markets sampling the finest Hunter Valley drops. Explore the climatic shifts between wine growers and producers from Allandale Winery, Boydell’s, Briar Ridge
Vineyard, Brokenwood Wines, Colvin Wines, De Iuliis Wines, Glandore Wines and many more. Plus, for the first time, the festival will host the Hunter Distillery, which produces some of the Hunter’s top shelf spirits and liqueurs.
Pair your glass with gourmet treats from local restaurants and producers like Sydney Oyster Girls, or those hailing from wine country, like Two Fat Blokes Euro Deli or the Hunter Valley Cheese Factory. There’ll also be six sessions of barbecue demos across the day, where you’ll pick up some hot techniques and get a gourmet plate matched with a glass of wine for $10.
The day in the sun will be set to a jazzy live soundtrack, with the tasting race beginning at 11am and last drinks being called at 4.45pm for a 5pm close to the festivities. They’ve even organised your designated driver for the day, with a free shuttle bus connecting Balmoral Beach with Mosman and Spit Junction every 15 minutes.
